
If you use Categories to structure your blog , you might like to display these categories on your blog homepage and other pages. It’s a good idea to show wordpress categories on your blog pages, since users can quickly pick up the best categories for him and browse the archive. But if you use lots of sub categories for an Example
Wordpress > Wordpress SEO > Wordpress Plugins
Here wordpress is parent category and Wordpress SEO and Wordpress plugins are sub categories. It will also show in your categories. If you have a niche wordpress blog like me, you might not mind showing your sub categories on the pages, as it will provide easy navigation for the users. But in case if you are covering lots of topics like Blogging, Wordpress, SEO, Technology and use sub categories for further categorization, you might like to disallow showing categories on your homepage.

Hiding anything that’s not beneficial to the reader is pretty important. If the category area can be kept to 4-7 items, that would be ideal.
In my case the subcategories which I created were also showing as the main categories what should i do for that.. as you i m using thesis
I have done this with my blog whereby you hide the sub categories and just show the main categories. It saves a lot of space and make things look smarter.
