How often we see cheap webhosting on Google , twitter and advertisement. By cheap webhosting I mean 1-4$ webhosting. People often fall for such offers since they will be paying only 12-40$/year for web hosting. They never think about the catch behind such web hosting and finally get frustrated in the end.
Here are some points which I would like to add if you still believe cheap hosting are good for your blog.
Underpowered server
This is the major problem which you face when you go with some cheap webhosting company. Such companies may have a very appealing sales page and offer you lots of stuff for free but they only thing which they can’t provide you is a reliable server and uptime for your blog or website.
Uptime
As I mentioned underpowered, chances are high even a slight increase in traffic may lead to start showing internal server error problem or your whole website goes down. This is very common problem with such cheap webhosting provider.
Customer service
Customer service and tech support are the backbone of any hosting company. Such hosting may offer you 24*7 support, but will not mention the turn around time. More over since they have limited funds, they will cut down the number of tech supports and most of the time put blame in your wordpress script or plugins.
Payment Scam
I’m not going to add any link here but search for hosting payment scam and you will be bombarded with unlimited payment scams of such webhosting.
Money back Guarantee
This happened to one of my friend, when he bought hosting they offered 97 days money back guarantee. When he cancelled his account, they refunded 70% of money and refuse to return rest 30% money back . The good thing which happened here is he made the payment via paypal, so he used paypal resolution center and got all his money back. But many users including me prefer making payment via credit card and we end up paying useless bill and can’t even claim a complete money back.
Reseller account
Such cheap hosting are usually reseller account, where people buy a big hosting package and distribute among users. Even if the capacity of hosting is 5, they will sell it to 2x of the capacity. Imagine you being stuffed in between 2 chair.
I will not say that every cheap web hosting are cheap or unreliable but from my experience and horror hosting stories which I have heard from my friends, I can say that you should not fall for such cheap hosting scams.

I’ve been lucky enough to have just one host through all the years of my blogging. GoDaddy’s price is about the same their competitors but their customer service is remarkable. I’ve been on the phone several times and those CSR’s are about the most helpful I’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with.
lately am getting a lot of server side internal errors with godaddy, perhaps its time to call them and find out how good is their customer service…
I’ve been using dreamhost for a while for my blog and I’m pretty satisfied with them. They have offers running pretty regularly and I made use of one of those offers. Otherwise the cost is about $8/month. Not cheap but definitely worth the price. Pretty good customer service too.
I agree with you, but people really do not like to make a huge investment in the beginning
